“It was my sister who kindled my interest in singing. Despite being just a few years older than me, she treats me like her daughter. I was this kid in school who would sing and hum while the teachers were busy teaching. And it reached a point where the teachers used to wrap up their class five minutes early to get me to sing for everyone. This did not change much even when I went on to college.
I love talking to people and making sure everyone around me is singing. There’s a restroom in my college where all the cleaning staff gathers during lunch so that I can sing and dine with them. I found a camaraderie with them that I couldn’t elsewhere. However, soon after having my lunch, I used to slip into a movie theater close to my college. That was my passion for movies. I could live the rest of my life doing just that -watching movies and singing.
That’s how I got into dubbing and art direction too. And even there, I am the same person where I make all the technicians, actors, and everyone else on the set to sing with me. As I am usually the youngest one, everyone develops a fondness for me, and I get along with them. Eventually, they started identifying me as the girl from the Art department, who sings well. Take away music from my life, and I don’t think I would ever smile again.
I say so because I was bullied and body shamed as a child when singing came to my rescue. And while nobody could care about the health issues I had while they bullied me, my voice made them sit down and listen. So, I think it’s all about finding a voice, a way, a platform to tell your story that matters. And thanks to my sister, I knew that singing was my strongest weapon, and I choose it to spread love!”
