Celebrating the #Taanakkaran of TamilNadu, 9
“After working as an Assistant Director for a couple of big movies, I (with my team) released my first movie, #Taanakkaran, a story that projects the police trainees’ journey during the training camp, in April 2022.
After my schooling, I joined the Armed Reserve Police. Though I liked to serve our people, I was pushed to become police due to the financial problems in my family. Moreover, I was interested in my sports and the people around me debated that my psychic was apt to become a police officer.
I served as police for 12 years till 2014 and then entered into cinema industry.
Although I officially began directing films a couple of years back, I was so much inclined in creativity such as writing poems, scriptwriting and so on. My first film did not happen overnight – it took around 5 years for me to pitch this fighter film.
After quitting my job as a cop, I worked with Vetriman Anna, who guided me and inspired me in making movies. I had walked miles for this film to come to life. But the biggest trouble in story-telling is that the more and more we narrate the story and get rejected, the more and more we either get exasperated or freaked out. Our energies on narrating the story get drained off and adding to that, we get to listen to a lot of suggestions and amendments when the story crosses each creative mind.
Taanakkaran isn’t yet another fantasy film but it is a story that many soldiers, policemen, and patrolmen can relate to and on top of that, common people will be able to understand the ‘behind the scenes journey that each cop had faced during their training days.
The reason I picked up this story is that the training period for each cop will be one of the unforgettable memories or incidents. While I was a cop, we (a few of my friends in police) used to talk about the past stories which we went through during our training and crack jokes. Though they are considered funny after a decade, those training periods became our base which wasn’t easy at all – it was highly challenging and tough and we had so much pressure throughout the journey.
Those experiences made me draft Taanakkaran and the actors from this film gave life to the story, which I’m thankful for to date. I would like to thank our Producer & Disney+ Hotstar who was so much supportive in bringing this story to the big screen.
I’ve received a lot of exciting & satisfactory feedback which makes me write good and relatable scripts in near future.”
