Celebrating the #Taanakkaran of TamilNadu, 1
“I was born and brought up in a small village in the Thoothukudi district. Despite the hurdles that the impecunious situation threw over us, I worked hard to complete my SSLC schooling.
One of my relatives showed me a way to join the police force in 1971. Without any second thought, I immediately applied for the Selection round and fortunately, got selected as well.
The selection process took place for 15 days and the training took place for over 9 months in Vellore.
I received the order in 1972 and proudly entered the Indian Police cluster in 1973. I joined the Reserve Police Station in Chennai. Initially, I was put up as a Mic Operator in the Police Control Room. Then after a couple of years, I was shifted to the Law & Order and was posted in the Harbour Police Station as a Constable.
Where hadn’t I worked in Chennai?! I had got the opportunity to work in many areas in Chennai such as Teynampet, Adyar, Saidapet, Ashok Nagar and so on as the Station Writer. I retired in 2009 from the Teynampet Station as a Sub-Inspector.
Having been in law enforcement for more than 25 years, I’ll be able to (mostly) identify the criminals and the innocents by their behaviour and attitude.
I’ve served in the field for more than 35 years and have never ever taken one single medical leave in my entire career. We work on Sundays as well.
I’m more an active person wherein I have taken up all sorts of work despite the provided tasks for me. I had received around 350 awards in recognition of my work and I would like to stress that I haven’t received any punishment in my term.
Being police can be an advantage and sometimes, a more painful job as well. I’ve stayed up in times when the public starts protests or any non-governmental campaigns. Adding to these protestations, the public has thrown stones and sticks at me (police) while the protest was on fire.
Life’s different for the common man and the cops in our state. At times, the job can be stressful but we never lose our passion for working for our nation, our state, our district, for our people.
I enjoy the fact that each day will be different and no two days will be alike.”
