“From a very young age, all I ever wanted to study was aeronautical engineering but life had a different yet a wonderful path paved for me. Growing up all I had above my head was a thatched roof. We were hit by utmost poverty and I spent the better half of my childhood putting all my effort into educating myself well. Diwali used to be a celebration of grand scales for everyone around us but for us, it was a very anxious period of being watchful to ensure that the firecrackers don’t burn down our roofs.
Until my 12th grade, I studied in a government school. I emerged a district topper in my 10th grade and from there on, my school took care of my education for the next two years. Owing to my top scores in my 12th as well, I was granted a scholarship by the government.
I did a diploma in Optometry with full scholarship and then put myself through masters to finish my education. Here is where I met my husband and we fell in love instantly. Shortly after our marriage, I had to take a break in my career to be with my child during the initial years.
But everything picked up once I began working again. Now I’m working at two different clinics working in a rewarding profession and also leading a fulfilling life. I dedicate my evenings to do free consultations and we also make arrangements to do free cataract surgeries for folks who are unable to pay for their operation.
I have become a firm believer in the fact that everything happens for a reason. And when we are determined to live our dreams, life does show us a way. Even if it’s not the way we imagined, life brings in something even more rewarding for us.”
