“Hailing from a working-class family in which my father was the only one with formal employment out of eight siblings, education was scarce around me. With the need for education, I had to give up my professional chess career during high school. I pursued my college education at NIT Trichy, majoring in Computer Science Engineering. But that was not enough for me.
Placed in a Fortune 500 company with a hefty salary, I was not comfortable sitting on the sidelines while I noticed the unnoticed issues in our society. I was driven by a thirst for knowledge and learning, so I also attempted to learn everything around me. I have always been a self-taught person, always pushing myself to learn more.
I struggled to learn by myself, and it took a considerable amount of time and effort to acquire the knowledge and skills I needed.
As a first step, I started learning politics theoretically. As someone who never could afford sophisticated resources, there wasn’t an option to run away due to a lack of mentors.
Finally, I decided to quit my IT job and joined Masters in Public Policy in National Law School, Bangalore. During my time there, I used the course to expand my social consciousness, I worked along Dalit Land Rights Movement and did my thesis on Schedule Caste Sub-Plan.
The more I worked, the more I realized that even educated youngsters have trouble understanding basic political concepts owing to the multiple narratives thrown at them. I felt that no one should have to struggle as I did, and that’s when I decided to become a content creator.
My efforts were rewarded with the opportunity of running a show named “Patravai” in Neelam Social, in which I did social commentary on government policies.
This gave me an opportunity to practice breaking complex political concepts into simpler narratives. Later, I moved to Instagram Reels where the challenge was to do it in under a minute. I have worked in the film industry, political strategy consulting, and policy advocacy. So I could leverage all the skills I earned from these different streams to overcome this challenge.
I believe knowledge when shared can be a powerful tool to transform society. I’m taking steps to launch a podcast, MADPOD, where I could discuss various issues and topics in-depth, bringing more awareness to people.
I am confident that my work will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the world for generations to come.”
