“Hailing from Madurai, I was blessed to be surrounded by a fun milieu throughout my growing years. Their vivacious energy somewhere did seep in, only to constitute a plethora of memories that I would go on to share later through an outlet called Standup comedy. And it was the same case even with extracurriculars. Though I had little inclination towards it, the few societies I’d been a part of did help me pick up all the necessary skills which aid my journey till date.

Now speaking about Standup, I witnessed a growing fad for the genre around 2015, though never realized having a knack for it. In fact, only when a friend introduced me to a popular communications club and I was put on stage, did I even witness the audience being thoroughly engaged by my humorous tone. That motivation slowly got me participating in more Open mics and taking up gigs. And with the new comedy wave booming in Chennai, I thoroughly started enjoying the vibe that persisted in these sessions.

But despite the joy, I was personally unsure of whether my sets, predominantly scripted in Tamil, would actually work in an arena where English was used extensively. Nevertheless. the answer to that came in through an overwhelming level of positive response, especially to a recent video that went up on Youtube. It garnered so much love, with people particularly applauding the authenticity and relatability of my Tamil anecdotes. And though I couldn’t fully savour the feeling of my gig going viral at that moment, the eyeballs it grabbed subsequently, reassured the scope for vernacular content in this field.

Now all this wouldn’t have been possible even remotely, without the support of my friends. At office too, I’m lucky to have a bunch of supportive colleagues who help me manage my Standup performances while working full time. Going ahead, I look forward to using this medium effectively and contributing to people’s lives in a positive way, even if it just means giving them a hearty laugh for five minutes.”
