“My foray into sustainability started like this. I began my experiments on any waste material I could find in my vicinity and could make a piece of artefact out of it. I started by customising diaries, gift wrappers, mugs, T-shirts and canvas shoes. It was quite challenging to cater to different themes that the client wanted from space, galaxies, astronauts, good luck charms, florals, doodling, nature and sometimes even brands& logos.
This journey started by combining various forms and creating one piece of creation that includes calligraphy, watercolours, paints, pens, simple drawings and quotes that reflect one’s personality. Since most of my work is about customising, it does get challenging to interpret their imagination and convert it into a usable item. I am a self-taught artist and this is why I don’t follow rules. I make mine.
There was once this young girl, obsessed with butterflies and she wanted the design on her orange-coloured shoes. The design had to be minimalistic and yet, the colours and vibrancy of the butterfly on the orange background had to be brought out. Likewise, there was this one design when the client wanted a galaxy with planets because the mysticism of space thrilled him. I was able to bring out the theme on his old shoes and he was happy that he could use the shoes for a longer time.
Colours bring such joy to me and I am happy that I can spread joy through art and colours, creating usable materials thereby upcycling and contributing my bit to sustainability.
Besides all of this, I am a Co-Founder of Books With A Crew, A book club that encourages reading and discussing books.
I am also a Co-Founder of TOOB, a blog and a vlog page on Facebook and WordPress. TOOB means Think Out Of the Books which caters to any skill that books don’t teach. Being a Ted Speaker, Open mike enthusiast and a young journalist collaborating with The Rooster News and The Quint made me passionate about orating. In school, am also the Secretary-General of Model United Nations.
I believe All things that one does must contribute to oneself, the community and the world. Caught in colours is my way of giving back, and bonus – It makes the world colourful, brighter and joyful!”
