“My journey towards becoming a successful editor has been an incredible one. It started with me being interested in direction during my college in Chennai, but the fear of unsupportive actors left me feeling uncertain about my path. However, I did not let this discourage me. Instead, I took on the challenge of acting in short films, but the results were not what I had hoped for. This led me to discover my passion for editing, a skill that I was an amateur at, but determined to master. I acted in and edited a dozen of short films during my second year in the Visual Communication course. As I continued to work on my craft, my talent for editing grew, and I soon began to receive recognition for my work.
As I approached the end of my college years, I was fortunate enough to secure an internship with Praveen Sir’s workplace. During this time, I faced a difficult period in my life as my final exams approached, but Praveen Sir was incredibly supportive. He even called me after my exams were over to join his team in editing.
Each day was a learning process, and I had to start from scratch each time. I learned everything about the process of filmmaking, from songs to trailers, and put my hands on all areas of editing.
Despite the numerous challenges I faced in my journey, including losing a lot of my friends, I never lost sight of my passion and worked tirelessly to improve and hone my skills. I had to put in long hours and work tirelessly to produce the desired result, but I never gave up.
Through all of this, I have come to realize perfection is an illusion. People always expect others to be perfect, but it is always smart to have someone near you who keeps you grounded and reminds you of the imperfections in your craft. For me, that person is my wife, who has been a constant support throughout my journey.
My career in the film industry has not been without its struggles, but it has also been one filled with incredible moments and accomplishments. I worked as an assistant editor in a couple of films, before moving on to become an associate editor and senior editor. From working on films like Tik Tik Tik, Bruce Lee, Comali, Mass, Love Today and a couple of Telugu films to Let’s Get Married (which is in progress), I strive to learn and grow alongside my peers.
Life is so imperfect that we get up every day to try to live it perfectly. It’s been more than 20 films that I am a part of, but in my opinion, it’s the journey towards perfection that truly matters. I am grateful for every experience that has brought me to where I am today, and I am excited to see where my journey will take me in the future.”
