“In 2016, I had to walk out of a 10-year abusive marriage, and it was the hardest decision of my life. The separation process was even harder. My life was at zero, and I had no clue how I would make anything out of my life. The only thing I remember trying to do was to create a Maternity Brand in my books and journals. For nine years, I did all of my research and drew all of my ideas, but the father of my son kept back all of my handwritten books, B.E. certificates, and school mark sheets. He always gave me pain and continued to do so even after I walked out. I felt like a suppressed spring, keeping all my ideas and not having a space to express myself.
And one day, I decided to make my own way. I walked into hospitals and stores, asking them if they would give me a space for my idea, but nothing worked out. Companies didn’t offer me a job looking at my career break, and I was dejected every day. But I didn’t give up. I took a social media marketing class, and my mentor saw my spark and told me to try putting my ideas out on Facebook and Instagram. And so I did.
I pledged my jewellery, took that money, made my first few collections, and did an amazing shoot with my soul friends. With their love and trust, I started Thottil on Oct 3rd, 2019. I had an extraordinary team of tailors that I pulled together and the best fabrics I sourced to make the outfits. I kept in mind the intricacies of a Nursing Mother top of my Mind, and we all worked as one to make the outfits. With a lot of attention to detail and a no-compromise attitude, every outfit was created. I always wanted to give all the warmth and love I never received during my pregnancy.
For me, each one of my Thottil Moms is very close to my heart. Thanks for pulling me up, Moms! I celebrate you!
I started off with a very small amount after pledging my jewels, and in three years’ time, my company turned into a hugely profitable company. I achieved my dreams by giving value to others. My passion and hard work paid off, and I realized that it wasn’t just about me, but about helping other moms like me. By giving love and warmth to my Thottil Moms, I received it in return. I pulled myself up by pulling others up.”
