“I had a fair introduction to yoga in my school and I immediately deemed it to be one of the most boring activities to have ever been discovered. Little did I know that this would eventually turn out to be the calling of my life. Despite being put through different art of living programs, I managed to still remain unperturbed about my opinions on yoga.
Shortly after graduation, I moved to Australia to pursue my masters. Here, I once again had an intervention with yoga. I was forced to attend yoga classes by a dear classmate who wouldn’t stop raving of it’s benefits. After a two month period of constant persuasion I gave in, and in one of my first classes there, I fainted.
It was a rude wake up call! For someone who seemed so fit on the outside, couldn’t handle one yoga class and I fell flat on my face trying. And upon continuing a few other times, I understood that both my physical as well as mental well being were nowhere near to where I think I was.
And this is where I truly understood the power of yoga and everything it embodied. But life happened anyway and I progressed forward in my career. Being in one of the high level positions with the Australian government, I was in charge of some key responsibilities. But at the end of a long day at work, I felt like I was still lacking something. My work was not fulfilling!
I decided to move back to India and decided to pursue yoga full time. I moved to an ashram in the Himalayas and became certified as a yoga teacher. Returning back home, a boy approached me asking if I would take classes for him. Slowly the word spread around and one by one people started to pool in.
What initially started as a small studio in my parent’s basement, could no longer hold more participants. So, I dropped in all my savings in building a studio and we have been successfully running for the past 7 years. In between, we had our own challenges. From convincing parents to navigating natural calamities and such! But what was destined to happen, eventually found it’s way and it finally felt like being exactly where I was meant to be.
We are often scared to take a leap of faith with anything concerning our passion or our calling but, it is one of the most worthwhile journeys we will ever have. Despite moving far away from my roots, the universe brought me back to where I had to be and it is a story I live to tell.”
