“Since the time I was a kid, my mother used to take me to different events like stunt shows, tree plantation drives etc. It so happened that in one of the drives, I met my friends who told me that they will plant the most number of trees. This propelled me to step up my game and I set forward to plant close to 150 trees in that drive. It was a crazy achievement for me and all my school members congratulated me.
But this incident stayed with me and I started to research on how tree saplings are grown. And that is when I came to know about ‘seeds’. Seeds to me are the miracle pockets of life that we can all carry around. From a tiny seed sprouts a huge tree, a phenomenal spectacle if you ask me.
So from here, I started collecting seeds from everyone. I would knock on people’s doors in our colony and ask them to save all the seeds from the fruits they consume and I would ask them to donate to me which in turn will be donated to nurseries and farmers. These nurseries will grow these seeds into saplings and donate the plants on tree plantation drives.
Simultaneously, I used to attend multiple tree plantation drives and I have planted close to 1,100 seeds in a year and more than 33,000 tree saplings. One time I decided I wanted to plant a seed a day and we ended up planting 365 trees for a whole year. This slowly progressed into schools, colleges and offices where I spoke about the importance of climate change and our environment to students and conducted seed collection drives in different places.
I have conducted multiple workshops on making ‘Seed balls’ and also gave my first TED Talk on seed sustainability and their importance to the environment. I have also won a world record (Future kalam’s book of records and Universal Achievers book of records) for making the most number of seed bombs in a minute.
Since the pandemic hit, I have been connecting with different institutes over zoom and explaining my idea towards seed sustainability. My goal is to donate over a lakh seeds to farmers and plant more trees all over the world.
Each and every one of us has the responsibility to do our bit for the environment and I hope everyone of us come forward to collect and donate seeds. They are the future of the world.”
