“Independence day meant a school holiday but we used to go to our school anyway for flag hoisting. The entire day used to be filled with events – from storytelling to march past and many other fun activities. The teachers will conduct contests for us and we will receive presents from our chief guests. Chocolates will be distributed and it was one fun day when we could go to our school without wearing our uniform.

School days are especially special since the days nearing the event is when the teachers allow us to practice songs and teach us dance moves. Similarly, two weeks before Independence Day, we are engaged in dance, music and even skits and plays.

This year it has been particularly different since all our classes have been shifted online. So we spent two hours yesterday singing and dancing to different patriotic songs but nothing can compare to the actual day at school.

This 74th Independence day, I wish that India attains its freedom from Corona and resume its operations like usual. Because I wouldn’t want to miss my next Independence day at school!”
