“I was born and brought up in Chennai, so I have spent a good half of my life in this city. With people moving to other places for job and education, the city started to wear off on me and I was looking for a change to another city in pursuit of job and education. One such day, with thoughts like these clouding my mind, I set out to the nearby grocery store to purchase some essentials. As I was checking them out at the counter, I felt an emptiness in my pocket and found that my phone was missing. I remembered carrying it from my home but it must had slipped from my pocket somewhere on the way. I got really nervous and could almost feel the blood drain out of my face. My body started to shiver with the impact. Borrowing a phone from another customer at the shop, I dialled my number half expecting a dead line. Luckily, a guy answered on the other end and told me that the phone was found on the road. He had picked it up and was waiting for it to ring to inform the owner about the phone. With this discovery, I kickstarted my bike and drove from Virumgambakkam to meet the guy near Meenakshi College. Everything happened really quick and the anxiety of this started to push me towards exhaustion. Seeing my state, some folks there offered me some water and decided to stay with me till I received my phone. It’s moments like these which restores our faith in humanity. Until that day, I was convinced that I wanted to leave this place but where else am I going to find this warmth and kindness among strangers?”
