“As a person who has been to 6 countries, 18 states, and 4 union territories in India, I can confidently say that travel has enriched my life for the better. It started with my family of course! I have a multicultural upbringing thanks to my dad’s transferable job and I have spent and studied in schools in different states. And when finally we landed in Chennai, I graduated as a textile technologist from ACTech Anna University.
Getting placed as a Brand Manager in the city of dreams, Mumbai was one of the best things that could have happened to me. Owing to my job, I travelled extensively across the world and when time permits, I would travel on weekends and long holidays. It goes without saying that I was smitten by travel and the valuable experiences it offered.
As a year would turn over, I would make the weekends in advance and sometimes, even book tickets in advance and make plans accordingly. And even during official trips, I would make plans for escapades and explore each and every part of every state.
One of the pressing concerns everyone poses to me is the financial aspect of it. Travel is definitely an expensive hobby but only when one is not prudent about it. I make sure to set aside a sum every month from my salary and there would be some adjustments with respect to the stay – I would mostly prefer staying in homestays and airbnbs thereby cutting costs wherever possible!
As the old saying goes, where there is a will, there is a way! Travel has got to be one of the most valuable education you will ever invest in but the lessons they impart will go a long way in helping you lead a fulfilled life. You become adept at people management, time management and the most important quality of all, humility. Travel humbles you like no other and this constant ‘Awe’ of the great yonder is enough to make anyone excited to live a life with compassion and kindness.
To anyone who feels that they can’t travel, I hope my story serves as a humble reminder that if I can do it, anyone can do it!”
